Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as something done for the Lord and not for people,
Colossians 3:23 CSB
I cannot count the number of times that I have been frustrated by some of the things that I do from day to day. It could go from something as simple as washing the dishes, having to wake up early for work or class to even serving at church. It's so easy to get lost in the routines. It's even easier to complain about them. We want easier, faster, better and more exciting. We live in a time where nothing satisfies us and it is unfortunate that it is so.
This, my friends, is a world mindset- doing things for people and not God. We think, "I need to wake up early because I'll get fired if I get late" or "No one in this house washes the dishes but me", "Why does everyone else seem to be getting ahead but me?", "I hate this job", "I'm just going to do this as quickly as possible so I can just be done with it" Any of these sound familiar? Why do we find ourselves saying some of these things? Could it be that maybe we have forgotten who we live for? Could it be that we have fixed our minds on worldly things and not God?
There is this tendency to isolate God's Word from our small day to day activities. The Bible is indeed a holy book because in it are the very contents of God's breath jotted down but it's not just for the 'big stuff' like exorcising demons or praying spirits away. On the contrary, God's very Word applies to every single part of our lives including the things we consider to be 'little' (See Romans 11:36). So I challenge all of us to shift our mindset today. In everything you do, do it for the Lord. If you're washing dishes, do it like you're doing it for God. Yes, as small as that task may be. If you're going to work, arise in the morning and set your mind to recognize that your boss is just a representative form of authority but who you really work for is God. On the days you feel under-appreciated for your efforts, remember the Lord sees you and notices you. He blesses the work of our hands (Deuteronomy 28:12). Always devote every action you do to God. How you speak and act, all is unto God. God can only shine through you when you have completely surrendered to Him. Setting a God-standard sets you apart. Always remember, our big and great God watches over you. Yes, the very same God that breathes life into galaxies and holds the world in His hands felt the need for your existence. There is nothing about you He doesn't know so He will always be present in your life (Luke 12:7). You only have to believe it through faith and your life will never be the same again. Let us be the salt and light of the earth again!(Matthew 5:13-16). Let the world know who we live for by how we choose to live.
